When it comes to Zhenming Road, the locals generally refer to it as a wedding street. To Li Yigeng, Ningbo governor in the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), this road was in the shape of a centipede. So, he built a golden-rooster-shaped rockery near Zhongshan Park for the safety of this road and the locals. Furthermore, soil was piled up on its street corner to construct the "Zhenming Ridge". Hence, this street was named Zhenming Road. Since the Tang and Song Dynasties (618-907, 960-1279), Zhenming Road and Gulou have always been on the same central axis in Ningbo. This north-south high street runs through the city center. This road is wide, with goldenrain trees on both sides of its sidewalks. Every autumn, the trees bear strings of small lantern-shaped fruits. Rows of red wedding dress rental shops and candy stores also make this road the first choice for Ningbo natives planning a wedding. Adjacent to Moon Lake, ancient Chinese buildings still stand along this road. Despite the rise and fall of Ningbo, the uniqueness of the road remains unchanged.
